Mestre Canjiquinha

Mestre Canjiquinha:
An interview with Mestre Canjiquinha about Capoeira Angola and Regional

Translation:
"There is only one capoeira, and with all my respect to late Mestre Bimba and his students, I wish I could play capoeira de Angola like Mestre Bimba did. Mestre Bimba started playing capoeira de Angola way before I did. So there is no such things as capoeira Regional and capoeira de Angola. There is one thing only: Capoeira. If you ask me to sing a capoeira de Angola song, I say I don't know. I did not learn capoeira in Angola, I learned capoeira here in Bahia, in Salvador. Mestre Bimba learned capoeira in Santo Amaro, he is a Capoeirista. Now, he was a smart guy, so he created the expression Capoeira Regional, after the region of Bahia, but Capoeira Regional does not really exist. Look, the berimbau is played in both capoeira Regional and Angola, we sing the same songs (cantigas) and play the same berimbau rhythms(toques). [...]All things considered there cannot be two styles of capoeira, not at all.
